If your feed looks anything like ours lately, it's been wall-to-wall dot cakes: perfectly scoopable personal cakes buried top-to-bottom under a blanket of rainbow sprinkles. The trend took over TikTok this spring, with bakery lines stretching around the block in New York. Now you don't have to leave New Orleans to try one. Olive & Co. is making them right here at St. Roch Market, and they're in the case now.
"I saw the dot cakes on TikTok as a trend, and I said, 'Oh, we can jump on that bandwagon right now,'" says Alison Grice Barrios, who runs Olive & Co.
The dot cakes come in a cup, layered with frosting and finished with that signature crunchy sprinkle top. Three flavors are available today:
- Vanilla Buttercream, the classic that started the whole trend
- Super Strawberry, strawberry cake with strawberry frosting
- Dubai Chocolate Pistachio, rich chocolate cake with pistachio frosting
And the rotation is already planned. "We're going to have a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting, and a banana cake, and good old-fashioned yellow cake with chocolate frosting," Alison says. "We do try to keep up with the viral dessert trends. It tends to bring people in just to check them out, and we like to be able to provide a little bit of fun."
If the Dubai Chocolate Pistachio sounds familiar, it should. Olive & Co.'s Dubai stuffed chocolate chip cookie, topped with crushed pistachios, has been one of the stall's biggest sellers since it launched. "That's been such a big seller for us," Alison says.
And she's not done. Breaking news from the dessert case: soft serve ice cream is coming soon to St. Roch Market. First up is the Cookie Sundae, a warm, chocolate-stuffed cookie served in a cup with creamy soft serve and chocolate fudge on top.
