Did you know the best bartender in the city came out of the 8th Ward?
Sean Verrett, better known as "Doeboy," grew up right down the street from St. Roch Market. The name? A buddy gave it to him years ago and it stuck. Now it's how everybody at the bar knows him.
He's been making drinks at Roch's Reprieve, and he just came up with something worth talking about.
The Verrett is Sean's take on a Manhattan. The Manhattan is named after a neighborhood in New York. Verrett sounds like it could be a neighborhood right here in New Orleans, so he named it that. He builds it with 1792 Small Batch Bourbon but swaps out the sweet vermouth for Chambord, a blackberry liqueur. You still get all the bourbon up front, but there's this dark berry sweetness underneath that doesn't take over. And the color on this thing is beautiful.
It's Manhattan-ish, but with a little Verrett to it.
The 1792 holds up the vanilla, the Chambord brings the berry, and the whole thing just works. A classic cocktail you've never had before.
